Cute and Trendy Boat Outfit Ideas- What to wear on a boat
If you’re like most people, you tend to break out your sundresses when the weather turns warm and stick to jeans during the winter. But while those two items of clothing are staples in many wardrobes, they aren’t always appropriate for every occasion or temperature. So what should you wear on a boat? The answer is simple: light layers and lots of sunscreen!
Just pick some clothes that match both your personal fashion sense and the weather forecast for wherever it is that you’re headed today! The best part? No matter how many layers or accessories there are involved here—and whether they’ve got stripes or polka dots or plaid patterns—they’ll still look super cute and trendy!
We have you covered for any type of outfit for a boat ride this summer season.
This post is all about what to wear on a boat.
Summery sundresses
Even if you’re not a fan of sundresses, they are a great outfit to wear on a boat. The fabric is lightweight and comfortable, which makes it perfect for sitting out in the sun all day (or night). They also dry quickly if they get wet from splashing around in the water with your friends.
Pack one or two sundresses that can be worn for both daytime and nighttime activities like lounging by the pool or going out on land excursions. Choose pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on your mood or destination—they should look great with sandals, sneakers, flats…you name it!
Washing: Most sundresses are machine washable so you don’t have to stress about getting them dirty while exploring new places. You may need to hand-wash delicate lace pieces before packing them away in order to keep them looking their best when you arrive at your final destination after days at sea!

Casual boat outfit
Sun protection. When you’re out in the sun, you’ll want to wear a shirt that covers your shoulders—and not just because it’s in style right now. The sun is stronger on boats than it is on land, so wearing clothing with long sleeves will help protect your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent sunburns.

Denim Shorts
Wondering what to wear on a boat? A pair of shorts is also a good option, we love a classic pair of high waisted jean shorts. One of my favorite places to get denim shorts is from Abercrombie! Pair the shorts with a cute bikini top and you’ve got yourself a perfect boat outfit!
Mid Rise Boyfriend Shorts

90s Low Rise Baggy Shorts

Dressy boat outfit
Some boat trips aren’t all about casual comfy outfits. Sometimes they are more on the dressy side. If you’re planning on doing a lot of relaxing, you’ll want to wear something breezy and cool. The great thing about boats is that there’s usually lots of air circulating, so this doesn’t have to be a problem.

A hat with a brim or a visor to shade your face
A hat with a brim or visor is the best way to protect your face from the sun. It will help keep your nose and cheeks from getting sunburned, as well as keeping your eyes safe from UV rays and windblown debris. A hat can also help protect your head and face from the sun should its rays make an appearance after all!
A hat is also a great way to protect yourself from the elements on a boat trip—a boon when it’s hot out! You can keep your head warm in winter months and cool during summer months by wearing a wide-brimmed hat.
Hats come in many shapes, sizes, materials, colors (and even fruit themes!), so there’s sure to be one that suits you!
Here are a few hats we are loving!

Bucket hat

A pair of sunglasses
Sunscreen is a must for anyone who spends time on a boat, but sunglasses are an accessory that are a must-have when spending all day under the sun. The right pair of sunglasses can protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays while also adding to your overall look.
Here are some tips on how to choose the right pair of sunglasses:
Try and get polarized. Polarized lenses reduce glare by blocking out light reflected off water and other surfaces around you (such as snow or sand). They also make it easier to see through raindrops or foggy windows when you’re driving or boating in bad weather conditions.
Choose tortoiseshell frames if you have light skin and brown hair—or vice versa if you have dark skin and black hair. This will enhance their appearance against your face color and create a flattering contrast between them!
Here are a few pairs I like!
Ray bans Wayfarer

Square frame

Sunscreen!
Sunscreen is a must. The sun can be harsh on your skin, so it’s important that you protect yourself from UV rays by applying sunscreen and reapplying every few hours if you’re going to be in the sun for longer periods of time. Aloe vera gel will also help cool down your skin after getting burned by the sun, so make sure to bring some with you!
If you want to enjoy your day on the boat without looking like a lobster at dinner time, here are some tips:
Apply sunscreen before leaving home or when boarding the ship (or whatever mode of transportation you’re using). If possible, apply sunscreen even earlier than that! The longer UV rays have contact with your skin during this time period, the more damage they can do when they hit later on during your trip.
Reapply when necessary (typically every two hours) because sunscreen can wear off over time due to sweat or water exposure. Make sure not just to put it on once; rather reapply often throughout each day for maximum protection against those harmful rays!
Here are my fav sunscreens!
Sunbum SPF 50

Supergoop

You should wear light layers and bring lots of sunscreen. Bring a hat, sunglasses and flip-flops or water shoes. And definitely bring a pair of sunglasses! A beach towel is useful for when you take a dip in the ocean, as well as a water bottle so that you can stay hydrated while having fun!
You may be feeling a little overwhelmed by all of this, but don’t worry! We’ve got your back. Now that you know what to wear on a boat, you can confidently go out and rock your next boating trip without any worries about staying safe or looking stylish.
You’ll definitely have fun if you spend time planning ahead and thinking about what kind of clothes will suit your needs best. With these tips in mind, getting dressed for boating should be easy as pie! Happy sailing!
