Have you always dreamed of having long luscious locks like a Disney princess or a shampoo commercial? It can be a complete struggle to grow your hair. In fact, you may actually be doing more damage to your hair that’s preventing the growth you want.
I’ve done tons of research on hair care tips and how to keep your hair healthy while attempting to grow it long. These hair hacks will help you grow long healthy thick hair fast!
This post is all about the 8 best hair care tips for healthy hair growth.
Change your washing schedule
Did you know you shouldn’t be washing your hair every day? When you wash your hair with shampoo it strips your hair of the natural oils it produces. Over shampooing your hair can lead to dry frizzy hair. It also causes your hair to produce even more oil to keep it moisturized- that’s what causes oily hair!
Train your hair by spreading out the days you wash it. Start with every other day and spread it out until you only need to wash it twice a week. If you have thin hair, this will be more difficult to achieve. Washing every other day will be better than every day!
At first, your hair will be oily but it will eventually adjust. I am able to only wash my hair twice (sometimes only once!) a week and it doesn’t get greasy!
Use high quality products
There are tons of shampoos and conditioners out on the market that contain ingredients that are actually bad for your hair. Some of those ingredients include: Parabens and Sulfates. You want to stay away from any products that have those ingredients.
You can find so many natural products on the market that are way better for your hair. I like HairStory New Wash, Shea Moisture, Olaplex, Prose, and Rahua.
Stop using heat
We all know how bad heat can be for our hair. Using heat styling tools every single day is so damaging! There is no way you will be able to obtain healthy long hair that way. If you’re someone who uses hot tools, try skipping out on the blowdryer and let your hair naturally dry, or try a heatless curl using a robe tie or sock method!
Use hair oils
Hair oils are a total game changer! Oils can moisturize and strengthen your hair. The oils I suggest are: argan oil, castor oil, and jojoba oil. The key is to get 100% natural oil, nothing that is blended or mixed with other ingredients.
I use my hair oils by rubbing it into my hair before I shower. I let it sit on there for at least 15-20 minutes. Make sure you shampoo twice and really well to remove any excess!
Hair oils is one of my fav hair care tips.
Stop wearing tight ponytails
Tying your hair super tight with hair ties can pull hair out of your scalp and damage your hair. Not to mention the headache you get with a tight pony.
Wear your hair up with a claw clip like the ones below or with a scrunchie! This way your hair is pulled back in a looser way that won’t damage it. Try other hairstyles like twists. loose buns, braids, etc.
Don’t sleep with hair in a bun
Sleeping with your hair up in a tight messy bun at night and do a ton of damage. Your hair can break and cause a major fly-away situation. Try and either sleep with you hair down or in a loose braid.
Silk pillowcases
Speaking about bedtime, you absolutely HAVE to be sleeping on silk / satin pillowcases. This is so important for the care of your hair. Cotton and other fabric type of pillowcases can cause frizz and damage to your hair. The silk pillow cases also have benefits for your skincare too!
Trim your hair
You may be thinking why would I cut my hair if the whole point of this article is how to grow it? Well this is a very important section of my hair care tips. You should actually be getting your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Getting your hair trimmed frequently keeps it healthy. And makes it easier for it to grow faster. This way the ends won’t be dry and cause split ends.
